Traditional New Year's post

Happy New Year! Or it will be in 3 and a half hours. J and I are celebrating in the traditional way for us, which is to say, not at all.

We're watching a movie - - The Musketeer - - which sucks, btw. Why are filmmakers intent on casting pretty boy(and girl) actors in lead roles, and good actors in smaller roles? And my usual complaint applies here - - everyone seems to have an accent *except* the lead characters. They could have stumbled in from any American teen movie. Funny thing is, D'Artagnan *had* an accent as a child, but somehow lost it between then and now. Tim Roth and Stephen Rea are good in this, but even they're not holding my interest.

Tomorrow, we'll be going to Mom's. She's making a traditional southern New Year's Day meal. For our family anyway, it's the same thing we've had since I was a kid - - greens, and black-eyed peas.

I want to thank all of you for sticking with me through a year that was rough at times. Despite some bad times, there were more good ones, and I made some wonderful new friends this year. You're all so special to me, and I hope next year is a wonderful one for all of us.

Happy New Year! Love you back!
1st-Jan-2006 08:00 pm (UTC) - Happy New Year!!
I love any movie that concerns the Three Musketeers, the Man in the Iron Mask, the Count of Monte Cristo or the Prisoner of Zenda, no matter how atrocious they are. And they're always pretty crappy. But they just appeal to me for some reason. I have no standards when it comes to them. I saw the movie you're talking about and loved it, despite the acting and the accents!

BTW, thanks for that splendid and enormous Christmas card! it's sitting proudly on my mantlepiece dwarfing everything else there, including my house-shaped sweet-tin collection. Everyone asks who it's from. And thanks for the pic! it's always good to be able to put a face to a name! I don't have a digital camera yet, but when I do, I'll send a pic back.

May this year turn out to be truly blessed for you. xxxx (I now see xxxx as really heavy slash rating and not kisses, but that's good, right? ;))

Even though I bitch about them I watch them all, too. I've seen all the Three Musketeers movies - - I remember seeing the ones with Michael York as D'Artagnan when I was younger and having such a crush on him. And I saw the Brat Pack Musketeer movie, and the one with Jeremy Irons and Gabriel Byrne - - Man in the Iron Mask.

You're very welcome for the card. It's just something I enjoy doing. J kids me about how much cheaper it would be to *buy* cards and send them. And I know what you mean - - I love to see who I'm "talking" to also. I'll look forward to your picture.
I'm working on Valentine cards now - - I love Victorian valentines, and have a couple I'm playing around with.

(I now see xxxx as really heavy slash rating and not kisses, but that's good, right? ;))

Very good, LOL!

Yeah, seen 'em all and more. I'm a sucker for men in frilly shirts for some reason...

I used to make my xmas cards too and really enjoyed it until I had to do it to make ends meet a few years ago and that took a lot of the fun out of it. I'm too busy these days at the end of the year, so i could make them earlier, but I just buy 'em. Did you get mine?

You may well have mentioned it. I haven't been online a lot. I'm on leave at the moment. Glad you liked it!

Happy New Year, sweetie - - even though it's not so new now. And yeah, I ate my black-eyed peas. I only eat them about once a year, so I had plenty.
