Seems like it's been ages since I did a *real* post. In reality, it's been about a week.

I've been busy - - still looking for a job. No luck yet.

J bought me the last three seasons of Sanford and Son on dvd as an early birthday present - - Wal Mart dropped the price to $13.72 - - so I've been having a S&S marathon the last few days. I knew when they showed them on TV Land they were leaving out the scene with the n word, but it turns out they were also skipping one or two scenes in every ep to make room for more commercials. So I saw scenes I had forgotten were even there. IMDb tells me they're making a movie version of S&S, with Bernie Mac. Not sure how I feel about that yet.

Over the weekend, we were at my aunt and uncle's Saturday for a fish fry, and at J's mom and dad's Sunday for Father's Day. J's paternal biological grandmother is up from Florida. She's my least favorite granny of J's. She's always negative, never has a positive thing to say unless it's about herself. And she says if her youngest son moves up here, she's coming too. Bad news for J's mom, who would have custody of her most of the time. I didn't much like Granny Purvis before I ever met her. J's dad is her oldest child, and when she divorced his dad and remarried, her new husband turned out to be abusive, to her and J's dad, and later to his own kids. Did she leave him? No. She gave J's dad away and moved to Florida with her new husband. That turned out to be good for J's dad - - he was raised by one of the sweetest women I've ever met. I didn't know his adoptive dad - - he died when J was just a year old - - but he and Granny Kirkley did a great job raising my FIL. In other words, I hope Granny Purvis doesn't move up here.

J had his first fillings done today, and he's miserable tonight. First his mouth was numb and he couldn't even drink properly, and now he's in pain. And he has appointments for more fillings and a root canal the next two consecutive Wednesdays.

While we were at the dentist's office, I finally, after nearly two years, read my digital camera manual and figured out how to do pix with one object in color and the others in black and white. Probably not a big deal for most of you, but anyone who knows me knows I'm not the most technologically inclined people in the world. Even desert_rifka(love you, sis!) figured out how to do this ages ago. I'm going to try macro pix tomorrow.

I'm also trying, for the first time ever, making cinnamon pickles. I've done regular sweet pickles, but it was years ago. Wish me luck!

And now, the results of my manual reading. I think it's just the neatest thing ever but J says I'm too easy to impress:

Cool! I wonder if my camera is that smart? *hugs*

LOL! It's taken me nearly two years to figure out mine does that. *hugs back*

I still haven't figured out how to work my digital camera, at least not beyond the bare basics, maybe I should read my manual, too. And please pass on my best wishes to J. I know first hand how terrible dental pain is, and I hope he can get through this with a minimum of suffering.

All I had done up until now was point and shoot. I wasn't even sure it would do anything else.

J's better today. It's the root canal he really dreads.

I can point and shoot, too, but that's about it. It's really my father's camera, anyhow.

I've had one root canal, and I have to admit, it was painful. It took about four visits to complete the whole thing, and then it all became unnecessary in the long run. The oral surgery I had a couple of weeks ago was to have that particular tooth pulled- the crown had come off, and the post inside had snapped. So that was eleven hundred bucks down the drain.

Those are cool. I didn't even know a camera could do that! =>}

I knew Rifka had done it, but it's taken me a while to a)find the manual and b)figure out how to do it.

That's a neat effect. I had no idea a camera could do that. I don't think either of my digital cameras have that feature. How do you tell the camera which color you want?
22nd-Jun-2007 02:04 am (UTC)
You have to get it in the right mode, then highlight and select the color you want, then it only takes that color.

Even I know how to do it! It's fun to do isn't it? I've got to find my manual and learn how to do it again. You can spend a whole day just playing with the different things the camera can do.

Fish fry huh? Hope it wasn't cat fish.
22nd-Jun-2007 02:03 am (UTC)
LOL! I did play around with it quite a bit today.

And yeah, some cat fish, trout, and bream.

Oh! I had fried green tomatoes tonight. Yummy.

Ooooooh that's neat. Hope you find a job soon, sweetie. You'll find the right thing, it just takes time. Hope J feels better, too! *hugs*
22nd-Jun-2007 02:01 am (UTC)
Yeah, I've been playing around with the camera some more today. J's doing much better. I'm starting to feel a bit discouraged about the job situation, but hopefully something will turn up soon.
22nd-Jun-2007 02:04 am (UTC) - stuff
1-You'll find a job soon. I have much faith and send you good wishes for the one you want.
2-Stay away from negative people. Which is why I avoid my mother and her family like the plague. They're like roaches. Get the Raid spray out and use it.
2- Hey J! I tol' ya, talk to Jack (Daniels) before you see that dentist. He'll hold your hand afterwards and there will be no paid. I take him with me whenever I see my dentist. 4 root canals and no paid each time:D
3-What on earth are cinnamon pickles?
4- Um, pretty nice pictures, Maddie...
22nd-Jun-2007 02:13 am (UTC) - Re: stuff
Thanks, sweetie! I'm a little discouraged, but hopefully something will some up soon.

LOL! I'll tell J.

Cinnamon pickles are basically regular sweet pickles that are made with cinnamon sticks and those tiny cinnamon candies added to the vinegar. They're red and taste great.

I'm having a ball playing with the camera, now that I know it does all this neat stuff.
