Updates and stuff

Mom had a bone scan today and is getting her port-a-cath put in tomorrow. So, hopefully her chemo can begin next week.

J has a colonoscopy on the 16th. I'm sure most of you remember last year, his first colonoscopy, when they removed over 30 polyps, thankfully none cancerous. We're hoping for no polyps this time.

J is really on the ball this year about my birthday. All we had in the car was a radio - - we've had a cassette stuck in the player ever since right after we got it. He got me a new stereo for the car! He explained he got it so early in hopes of getting it installed before my birthday, but he installed it tonight. It has radio, cd, and plays mp3s, with one of those little SD cards, thumb drives or on cd. I already have some Keith Urban and Dixie Chicks ready to go.

Does anyone know how to get out grease spots when Dawn or Greased Lightning don't work? My cousin's girlfriend did laundry here Saturday night, and washed *and* dried my favorite capris with a tube of Blistex in the pocket. I've tried stain remover, Dawn, and Greased Lightning. Any ideas? I have quarter-sized spots all over them.

What a sweetie J is! Here's hoping for health and happiness all around for your family.

Yes, he is a sweetie! Thanks!

All positive thoughts are being sent to J. and your Mom.

Your J. spoils you like my J. spoils me? When IS your b'day?

I use Shout for grease stains. I don't know if you have it there. It's a spray, stain treatment thing you use before washing. I also just read a stain removal chart I had and it suggests as a last resort rubbing baking soda into grease stains.

Good luck!

Thanks, sweetie!

Yeah, J does spoil me, but I try to reciprocate.

My birthday is June 26th, exactly one week after yours. I always remember yours because the 19th is also the birthday of my best friend from high school.

I didn't know the baking soda thing, I'll keep it mind as a last resort.

Ah yes. After I leave for the cottage. =<{

I have met very few people who shared my b'day. Like maybe one or two. Nice to know I share it with a good friend of yours. =>}

On my stain chart, it even says to use baking soda as a last resort. LOL. Good luck! =>}

When exactly do you leave for the cottage? And I didn't comment on your post, but of course I'll be snail mailing you again.

June 23rd we leave for Toronto. Sat., the 24th, we pack up Mum and her two cats, plants, luggage etc., etc. and head up to Winoka. That's what we call the cottage. When my parents had it built in 1954, they had a little family contest to name it and my Great Aunt Mary took the name of the village - Windermere, and Muskoka and came up with the winner, Winoka!

Which I still find pretty cool.

Friends of my parents used to spend their holidays with us there every year. When they retired, they built their own cottage nearby and named it "Oakawin", a very cool tribute to all of us. =>}

I love the story of the naming of the cottage!
4th-Jun-2006 12:37 am (UTC)
Yes, it's pretty cool!

And I forgot to add that I'm once again looking forward to corresponding with you from the cottage. Your letters etc. helped make the summer pass much more quickly for me. =>}

And I definitely still have your address, after the lovely Xmas, Valentine's Day and Easter cards you made and sent me! Thanks again for them, too! =>}

You're welcome. I'll e-mail you Mom's address, since we only get home to pick up our mail about once a week.

Okay! Good idea. Thanks. =>}

Did you try those laundry detergent additives that have "Oxy" in the title? It *is* fairly bad that they were dried, though. I hope the stains come out!
3rd-Jun-2006 11:45 pm (UTC)
No, I hadn't tried any Oxy stuff, but I'll keep it in mind.

What worked for me once on some olive oil stains was Goop (that slippery mechanics hand goop they use to take the car grease off their hands):

I worked it in then just washed the shirt like regular and no more stain. Good luck!

In re: your mom, suggest to her she may want to start taking antioxidants or eating more food with them (broccoli, cauliflower, beets, cabbage, carrots, tomato, citrus fruit). It will help her with some of the side effects from chemo. If there is a Trader Jo's near you, they have some of the best antioxidant tablets around. If she gets to feeling drained and achy, also suggest their White Tea, regular for energy, decaf for achy and at the end of the day. It also has some powerful antioxidants.

Thinking of you both!

Thanks! We have to make a Wal Mart run tomorrow, I'll get some GOOP.

Thanks for the food recs, Mom likes most of those, so that'll help. No Trader Jo's near us, but I'll check somewhere else for the tablets.

Hey sweetie! Thinking of you and your Mom and J. *big hugs*

Thanks, Lorelei!
