Grapes of Wrath

So, I watched Grapes of Wrath again today. I love this movie. Though it's not completely true to the book, it is one of the most perfect movies ever. Perfectly written, perfectly cast. John Carradine and Jane Darwell are amazing. I can watch it over and over.

I have always resisted the idea of a remake. Now, I think I'm ready. I want Tom Hiddleston involved, but I don't know if I want him to be Tom, or Casy.

I think James Franco could make this movie. He's done awesome stuff with William Faulkner's work - - As I Lay Dying, and I'm sure The Sound and the Fury is just as good, but they won't release it on dvd.

He's also done Steinbeck: In Dubious Battle, which was great, and he did Of Mice and Men onstage, and it was filmed, but once again, not available.

Now(if you're still with me, tl:dr, am I right?), if he did GoW, it's one of those Tarantino/Coen brothers situations, where he has "his" actors, and no doubt Tim Blake Nelson and Beth Grant would be involved. I could easily see Tim Blake Nelson as Muley Graves. Beth Grant would probably be Ma Joad, which could still work. Not sure if Franco would play Tom or Casey, but he would surely play one or the other.

Has anyone seen Grapes of Wrath, or have an opinion on this?

I have read the book and seen the original movie. It's always been one of my favourites. That and of MIce And Men. I haven't seen the remake though. I love Tom Hiddlestone. He and James Franco, ah yes, that would be my movie happy meal. :-)
